Reefer Intelligence

Monitor the Load. Not Just the Temperature.

FreightFlow connects the temperature requirements of the freight with what the reefer is actually doing—continuously monitoring temperature, setpoint, operating mode, precooling, equipment health and historical performance throughout the life of the load.

Current Capabilities

A reefer can be running and still be running wrong.

Traditional monitoring tells you the temperature of the trailer. FreightFlow adds the context needed to understand whether the trailer is operating correctly for the freight inside it.

The system compares load requirements, reefer settings, actual box temperature, operating mode and historical performance to identify conditions that deserve attention.

  • Temperature

Is the trailer actually maintaining the temperature required by the load?

  • Setpoint

Does the reefer setting match what was ordered?

  • Mode

Is the unit running in the appropriate operating mode for the product?

  • History

Is this load behaving consistently with comparable loads on the same lane?

Load Requirements

Read the shipment instructions before judging the reefer.

FreightFlow can extract temperature requirements from bills of lading and shipment documentation and compare those instructions with the actual reefer configuration.

Instead of asking operations to manually determine whether the trailer is set correctly, FreightFlow can continuously compare the ordered temperature with the reefer setpoint, box temperature and operating mode.

Historical context • Sample Data

Comparable hypothetical loads on this lane specify −10°F. The current setpoint and box temperature do not match that requirement.

Why It Was Flagged

The shipment calls for −10°F, but the unit is set to 20°F and the box is at 23°F. Both the configuration and actual temperature differ from the shipment requirement.

Recommended Action

  1. 01Verify the BOL, customer instructions and freshness of the telemetry.
  2. 02Ask operations and the driver to investigate the unit settings and follow the approved configuration procedure.
  3. 03Review the load’s temperature history and escalate through the fleet’s product-protection process if needed.

Mode Validation

Temperature alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

Different commodities can require different reefer operating strategies. A trailer at the correct temperature may still be operating in a mode that is inconsistent with the shipment requirements.

FreightFlow can compare operating mode with shipment requirements and configured rules to identify potential mismatches such as Continuous versus Cycle operation.

Before Pickup

Know whether the trailer will be ready before loading begins.

Precooling shouldn’t begin when the driver reaches the dock.

FreightFlow can use ambient temperature, trailer conditions, required loading temperature and historical cooling performance to help determine how far in advance a reefer should begin running.

The goal is to identify trailers that may not reach the required temperature before their scheduled loading time—and give operations time to act.

Historical Load Intelligence

Every completed load makes the next load smarter.

FreightFlow can compare a current shipment with previous loads moving similar products across the same lanes.

Historical performance helps identify whether a trailer is cooling, maintaining temperature and operating consistently with what has worked successfully in the past.

Exception-Based Operations

Show operations what needs attention—not another screen of green dots.

A refrigerated fleet can have thousands of active trailers. FreightFlow is designed to prioritize the small percentage that require human attention.

  • Temperature

    Actual temperature outside expected range.

  • Mode

Operating mode does not match shipment requirements.

  • Setpoint

Setpoint inconsistent with the BOL, customer rule or historical expectation.

  • Equipment

Reefer fault or equipment condition requires attention.

  • Data

Required data cannot be verified or is missing.

  • Precool

Trailer may not reach loading temperature before the appointment.

Operations sees the exception, why FreightFlow flagged it and what needs to be investigated.

From Alert to Action

Don’t stop at identifying the problem. Start the maintenance process.

FreightFlow can integrate with existing maintenance workflows so reefer faults and equipment issues can move from monitoring into action.

When qualifying conditions are identified, the system can provide the equipment, load and fault information needed to initiate a maintenance ticket within the fleet’s existing maintenance process.

Product Quality

Move from temperature compliance to product protection.

A standard temperature and operating-mode setting may not be the optimal strategy for every product, lane and operating condition.

By analyzing historical reefer performance, temperature stability, runtime and shipment outcomes, FreightFlow can help fleets and shippers better understand how reefer operating strategies affect product protection.

That intelligence can support the development and refinement of reefer configuration programs, including OptiSet-style profiles where supported, designed around specific commodities and operating requirements.

Better Operating Strategy

The goal isn’t simply to keep the trailer at a number. It’s to protect the product from pickup through delivery.

For Shippers

Know how your product was protected—not just where it was delivered.

Shippers can gain greater visibility into the refrigerated environment protecting their freight throughout transportation.

Better visibility gives transportation and quality teams more information about how refrigerated freight was handled from pickup through delivery.

For Carriers

Protect the freight before a temperature issue becomes a claim.

FreightFlow gives operations teams one view of the shipment requirement, reefer configuration, temperature condition and equipment health—helping them identify problems earlier and focus attention where it matters.

  • Reduce manual monitoring
  • Prioritize loads requiring attention
  • Validate driver reefer settings
  • Improve precooling discipline
  • Connect reefer issues with maintenance workflows
  • Build historical intelligence around lanes and commodities
